Tried & Tested: The Beauty Chef BODY Powder

I love a good protein shake. I bought this one in my 1st trimester of pregnancy, a time when I could not stop eating. Baby needs food! I bought it with the hope that instead of reaching for an afternoon snack, second breakfast, or post dinner snack I could just quickly whip-up a protein shake that I knew would hit the spot and support me & the growing life inside of me.

Most protein shakes are full of gross stuff, like artificial flavours and sweeteners, and can be pretty hard to digest. The BODY is designed to be different.

About The Beauty Chef BODY Powder

Packed with bio-available plant proteins, super fruits and vegetables, alkalising greens, spices, probiotics and green tea, The Beauty Chef BODY Inner Beauty Powder is a revolutionary super-food wellness supplement designed to nourish your body from the inside out and help promote a healthy weight range in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise program.

An all-natural, vegan, 95 per cent Certified Organic formula, BODY is designed to help boost your daily protein and nutrient intake, while helping to kick start your metabolism, curb sugar cravings and nourish your body so that it can perform at its best.

Developed by The Beauty Chef herself, Carla Oates, BODY tastes like chocolate (made with organic raw cocoa) and boasts three premium sources of clean plant protein from easily digested fermented brown rice, organic peas and organic chia seeds, naturally completing the amino acid profile. In addition, a mix of potent nutrients from 25 organic, fermented wholefoods including health-boosting alkalising greens and nutrient dense fruits are blended with anti-oxidant rich spices to provide 100 per cent of your recommended daily intake of vitamins C and K, and a natural source of vitamins B2, B3 and B6.

In addition to fermented fruits, vegetables and spices, BODY also contains a power-hit of pre and probiotics to bring the body into balance, while a unique green tea extract helps to support the body’s metabolism. The Beauty Chef BODY Powder

My Verdict

What did I like?

  • It is really good for you. Seriously, I’ve never seen a protein powder that packs in so much goodness.
  • It’s easy to digest thanks to the variety of bacteria’s and minerals packed in, with the protein.

As much as it pains me to say (as you know how much I love The Beauty Chef), I really dislike this product. Why?

  • It’s too gritty/grainy; not smooth at all
  • Tastes like arse. Needs a tonne more cacao in there to cover the chalk taste.
  • It’s pretty expensive, at $69.95 for 500g

I tried to like it. I blended it in berry-based smoothies but still found it to be gritty (even the raspberry seeds couldn’t hide it). I stirred it into coconut yoghurt but still, the weird bitter taste came through. Perhaps it was the stevia I was repulsed to?

I’m pretty disappointed as I’ve read many glowing reviews about The BODY, but I just can’t see it (Nourished Life reviews give it 4.8 out of 5). Perhaps it was like how my mum used to try tell me that tahini tastes good, just because it was good for me. I’ve started to notice that people tend to lie to themselves a lot when it comes to the healthy food movement.

If something tastes like crap, it’s ok to admit it and move on. You don’t need to keep lying to yourself; your body can live without the health-giving benefits of tahini, Mum!!!!

Buy now

I won’t be buying it again (I’ll just stick to their other, delicious products).

But if you would like to try it for yourself, or suspect I’m overly fussy/unappreciative of its distinct flavour/pregnant cray-cray, you can buy it now from Nourished Life or The Apothecary Store.

Disclaimer: I did go through a weird food-aversion stage in my first trimester, so it is possible my taste buds were playing up. I’ll try it again soon and report back.

I have to say I agree, I bought the chocolate Body Powder expecting it to taste like Chocolate, it tastes revolting, nothing like a chocolate shake. It is very grainy and has a very sweet sacarin flavour…..I tried to persevere with it but I can’t take to the flavour. I will not be buying it again no matter how good it is supposed to be for you. I’m not that desperate I’m afraid.

You’re spot on with your description! So disappointing since their other products are so delicious. I’ve got half a container in my fridge going bad – I can’t bring myself to throw it out because it wasn’t cheap. I’m going to try hide some in chocolate chia puddings and other chocolatey things. I’ll let you know how it goes!
