Everybody loves to smell good but so many perfumes on the market today are packed full of chemical nasties, enhancers and preservatives that we really don’t want to apply to our skin. Is there a clean, natural and safe alternative to traditional perfumes? IME Natural Perfumes are hoping to convince us of this.
Back when I was at University I worked in a perfume shop and would spend every spare moment testing and sampling. I love perfume and matching a fragrance to a mood or outfit. But now, I’m just not comfortable with the idea of spraying a chemical concoction straight onto my skin. Unfortunately finding a natural perfume that smells good is really hard.
My sister gave me a 9 sample pack of IME Natural Perfumes for my birthday and I’ve been super keen to try them out. I’m more a Gucci Premiere than an essential oil rubbed onto your wrists kind of girl so I’m a little skeptical. And no matter what you tell me, smelling like an incense stick is not cool. I like hippy-chic, not hippy.

IME Natural Perfume Review
Herbal, Spicy, Earthy. Strong & bold. A rich resinous blend of earthy notes that are both warm & authentic topped with herbs & spices. Grounding & not for the faint hearted.
Inspired Notes: Basil, Sage, Galbanum, Thyme, Tarragon, Carrot seed, Styrax, Patchouli, Sweet Almond, Rose Absolute Top of Form
A little more masculine than the others. It evokes quite a strong persona, perfect for when you need a little more drive.
Woody, Oriental, Floral. A sophisticated, warm, exotic, and silky scent that will softly intrigue and seduce the romantic side. Devilishly feminine.
Inspired notes: Mandarin, Cardomom, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Tolu Balsam, Labdanum Balsam, Sandalwood.
Despite the muse, I find this one to be quite sophisticated in scent. Almost Chanel-esque. This is one of my favourites. This fragrance seems to last way longer than the others too, like a good 6 hours.
Fresh, green. Clean & crisp. A lively blend of light citrus & uplifting greens. For keeping cool day or night.
Inspired Notes: Lemon, Lavandin, Eucalyptus, Neroli, Amyris, Sweet Almond.
Pretty and fresh. Quite a light scent, perfect for summer. Reminds me of lemon water, in that it’s refreshing and light.
Fresh, citrus. Cheeky, zesty & mischievous. A fun, fresh feeling with a contrasting light warm green undertone. Totally tingly & effervescent.
Inspired Notes: Lime, Litsea Cubeba, Citronella, Pine, Geranium, Patchouli.
A little more toilet-fresh than flirty for my tastes. Perhaps it;s the citrus scent so commonly associated with cleaning products?
Fresh, aquatic. Light & stimulating. An invigorating combination of refreshing citrus with sweet spice. For the free spirited.
Inspired Notes: Orange, Lime, Chamomile, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Clove Leaf, Cinnamon, Sandalwood.
Empowering, Luxurious & smooth. A harmonising blend of warm woody notes with a hint of musk & an amber undertone.
Inspired Notes: Bergamot, Howood, Pine, Benzoin, Labdanum Balsam, Gurjun Balsam.
Feminine and elegant. Another one of my top picks, fragrance-wise. Weirdly though, this one seems to disappear after about an hour. Very poor performance.
Oriental, Floral, Musk. A delicate and subtle array of florals on soft, sensitive and sweet timbers. Beautiful and profound.
Floral, green. Powdery & fresh. Intensely positive, sweet & feminine. For stimulating the senses.
Inspired Notes: Galbanum, Ylang Ylang, Styrax, Peru Balsam, Rose hip.
Super feminine and floral. Not ‘old-lady’ floral, but a young, fresh floral. The notes I was picking up on was jasmine, which is odd because jasmine isn’t even listed as an ‘inspired note’. I love the fragrance and thought it was just divine. The scent stuck around for a while too.
Floral, Oriental, Soft Wood. A friendly and romantic blend of sweet florals with a touch of gentle spice and warm wood. A classic for all time.
I’m super impressed. To create these scents from natural sources took some serious olfactory skills. Each are beautiful created. I spent ages trying to decipher what I was smelling and was often beat. They are a stunning combination of scents to create unique fragrances.
Not a whiff of hippy here! It is all about beautiful, luxurious scents.
Obviously I didn’t like some as much as others, but that’s a personal preference rather than any tangible judgement.
Natural perfumes uniquely respond to your body’s own chemistry when placed on the skin. Therefore the lasting ability of a perfume can vary from person to person. The botanical alcohol base used in time Natural perfumes more gentle on the skin and contains no toxic chemicals for enhancing or fixing a perfume as found in synthetic based perfumes.
Officially, they generally last approximately 4-6 hours, however my experience finds it’s closer to 2-3 hours. Come on, my toilet air freshener lasts longer than that. This is pretty disappointing and puts them more in the category of refreshers rather than perfumes.
Tip: spraying directly onto your clothes rather than you skin seems to help the fragrance linger a little longer.
Buy IME Natural Perfumes
For $74.95 you can buy the “Collections Pack” which features a 5ml sample of all nine muses.
Alternatively, for $59.95 you can buy 30ml of your favoured muse.
For the quality of ingredients and complexity of the scents this seems fair, but for the longevity of the scents I feel this is a tad over-priced.
Regardless, if you want to test them out for yourself (and I recommend you do), here’s a few online retailers:
